Meet @hiphop10k Founders – Freddie & Denise

When two fitness-minded, business-minded people get together…the possibilities are endless. Freddie and Denise, the founders of the Bay Area’s Hip Hop 10k Run, put their powers together to create a one-of-a-kind fitness experience for runners of all skill levels. Whether you’re looking to set a PR on a certified course, briskly walk, or fun-run and enjoy an amazing atmosphere, Freddie and Denise are putting together an amazing show that also benefits Make-A-Wish Greater Bay and Loaves & Fishes.

Guys, this is way more than friendly cheering at water stops. Imagine getting an entire musical experience while completing, and after finishing, a race. Keep on reading…

Freddie and Denise are not only athletic and competitive, but they also have the drive to achieve big things. Freddie is the owner of Freddie J’s Bar & Lounge, and Denise works as a nurse and has successfully helped raise money for non-profits. All it took was one phone call to form the idea of the Hip Hop Run.

“We want to involve people from all walks of life. You’re different from me, but we both love music,” noted Freddie, who also proclaimed his love for old school hip hop tunes.

Organizing a race is exciting, but it comes with a lot of “to-dos” and responsibility. The first annual Hip Hop Run will include a certified 10k course, 5k course, and an obstacle run of about 5k. Freddie and Denise want to make sure runners are prepared and have the level of confidence they need to enjoy the event, so they currently offer top-notch fitness boot camps.

In addition to helping runners prepare, Freddie and Denise also give local artists the chance to shine through performing at Freddie J’s Bar & Lounge.

And, there’s more – the pair enjoys helping out local businesses as much as they can. Local brands have the opportunity to sponsor and draw attention to themselves by working with Freddie & Denise on this one-of-a-kind race.

The mission of the Hip Hop Run is to benefit charities and ensure that others have a great time and a great run. “We don’t want to gouge anyone to do this [race and event]. We aren’t hoping and praying to make a trillion dollars. It’s not about the money. I want the best show possible,” said Freddie.

This year, the first annual Hip Hop Run takes place in San Jose on September 24, 2016. Runners can register and make donations through the Hip Hop 10k website. In the future, Freddie and Denise hope to make Hip Hop 10k a national tour that spans at least six different cities yearly.

I will tell you from just speaking with Freddie & Denise briefly that these two have their heart in the right place and are going to put on a wonderful race! The courses are certified and will be filled with fun, which is great for all types of runners.

I hope to get Freddie & Denise to take the show to Ohio… 🙂

In the meantime, you can follow the makings of the first annual Hip Hop 10K via social media:

It’s not every day that you get to know the people who organize races. Those people are usually similar to The Great & Powerful Oz – we know they’re there, but we never get to see them or get to know them. If you’re considering a end-of-season race, definitely add this to your list – you will be greeted and treated right!
